C.h.a.m.p

C.h.a.m.p (Baby Debo) is an artist and performer who has recently released a brand new project, YOLO. Nathaniel Glen Miller Jr. from Mesquite, Texas is definitely making an impact, with more than 100,000 streams on all platforms. Born on July 24, 2000, the 21-year-old is now in the conversation of the best new coming rappers.

His YOLO EP is a perfect example of what it’s like to produce great rap.

One of the most distinctive traits of this release is certainly the energy, and the drive that fuels the performance of the artist. The vocals feel very animated and spontaneous, an obvious sign that this performer is actually genuinely connecting with his lyrics, in a much deeper way. This isn’t just a puppet singer popping out catchy hooks: there is a deeper concept behind the songwriting, which really adds weight to the mix. YOLO is a great example of the artist’s incredibly hard-working ethics and his unique talent, as it feels like C.h.a.m.p (Baby Debo) is always ready to challenge himself, and YOLO is a unique statement that showcases so many different influences smeared across the compositional spectrum to form a vivid and lush picture of an artist with an excellent level of musicianship on tap.

In addition to the personable and edgy performance value, this release is also quite distinctive because of the sheer quality of the production. The mix is balanced and very detail-oriented, making for a lively, edgy and stark sonic approach. In other words, there are many subtle nuances in this release, which really add to the richness of the track when summed up together. The frequency spectrum of the mix is also very balanced, with a tight, yet deep low end working wonders along with a smooth top end, which adds a sense of clarity to the music. This remarkable new studio work is truly astonishing and it stands out as a very strong statement from the artist, especially because it is a sign of his ability to think outside the box. While many artists in the rap genre seem to be prisoners of the usual cliches, C.h.a.m.p (Baby Debo) is all about challenging himself and re-defining the stereotypes. His music is incredibly personal and easy to relate to, bringing a breath of fresh air to the hip-hop landscape. YOLO (Which if you didn’t know, stands for “You Only Live Once,”) is actually an incredibly rewarding experience for the audience, and an amazing example of the artist’s skills when it comes to challenging himself and redefine the boundaries of what’s possible in terms of compositional creativity in modern rap music. YOLO comes highly recommended if you are a fan of music that feels authentic, innovative and spontaneous. Not only is this release channeling some of the best modern and classic influences, but it also feels completely new and original – a good introduction to the artist’s personality, as well as a great example of what it means to make great modern hip hop that feels genuine and uncompromising in terms of pure creativity. If all artists out there followed C.h.a.m.p (Baby Debo)’s example, we’d all definitely have a much more eclectic and diverse music scene, with so much variety on hand! Thankfully, this artist is here to lead the way and carry the torch higher for a whole new generation of musicians, ready to embrace a more unique and creative flow.

YOLO stands out for its modern sound, but although the production is quite polished, it is never overproduced, allowing a lot of wonderfully organic and “human” elements to really add liveliness to the mix.

Ultimately, I’d definitely recommend giving this one a shot, particularly if you are a fan of artists such as 50 Cent, Nas and Busta Rhymes. This is the kind of track that will surprise you for its sonic variety, and it will keep you on the edge of your seat due to its catchy, yet unpredictable arrangement. I always love to hear from artists who set the bar higher and push the envelope when it comes to their productions: this certainly appears to be the case!
