ELECTRO DOCTORS are the future and they are smashing the Electronic Dance Music scene in Sri Lanka

Electro Doctors

Electronic music has come a long way in recent years and continues to grow in popularity among the younger generation. Electro Doctors told us that they were always interested in watching famous music festivals like the Ultra Music Festival and Tomorrowland when we spoke with Electro Doctors about their entry into the local electronic music scene in Sri Lanka. “Watching this aroused my curiosity in electronic music, and we told ourselves that one day we wanted to be like these performers at a huge festival.”

Soon after they began experimenting with creating, mixing, and mastering music, their aspirations became a reality. Electro Doctors is a DJ pair that specializes in a certain kind of electronic music, with their combined knowledge and experience. Hi-Tech Minimal, Percussive House, Groove, Progressive house, and Tech House are some of the genres they make and perform. Sri Lanka’s first iPad musician at the time was Kanishka, and he brought a lot of unique information to the table. Electro Doctors performed at over 50 shows around the country, including the iconic music festival “Sunburn Music festival” alongside with BassJakcers in Sri Lanka. Electro Doctors also performed at Zook Music Festival, Electrolizer Music Festival, and the YES Home Grown Awards. They also performed with renowned stars such as Romeo Blanco, Sem Thomasson, DJs From Mars, DJ Christy Million, and DJ Amely, to mention a few. They’ve also released songs like Gajaga and Pumpkin (Wattakka), which are totally Sri Lankan in nature. Their music supported by many international DJs, Top100 DJs in DJ Mag such as Bob Sinclair, Fedde Le Grand, Dannic, Kryder Sunnery James & Ryan Merciano etc.

Getting to the stage where you can perform at renowned festivals like Tomorrowland is no simple task, especially for two young musicians from such a small nation as Sri Lanka. Electro Doctors stated that one of the most difficult obstacles they are continuously attempting to overcome is the issue of signing music on popular labels. They stated as “We need to get signed with a reputable label that that does high-quality promotions as well as who signs good music.” This isn’t simple, but we as Electro Doctors have a goal of releasing music with a big-name labels, and we work towards it every day, Electro Doctors stated as “If we can achieve this, we can full fill our dream of playing at worldwide festivals and gain the attention that Electro Doctors require from all around the globe.”

We questioned Electro Doctors about the present state of electronic music in Sri Lanka, and they responded that it is still in its experimental stages. “While electronic music is rapidly gaining popularity in the country, there is still considerable room for development.” When comparing electronic music in 2012, when Electro Doctors first started, to modern-day electronic music, Electro Doctors stated that there has been a significant improvement in terms of quality and recognition. “There are a lot of new DJs and producers now, but they mostly stick to playing at clubs in Sri Lanka”.  Electro Doctors told us that there is so much more potential for upcoming talents here in Sri Lanka, and electronic music will be completely grown and be recognized internationally in few years.

Electro Doctors are currently working on some new songs and plan to travel around the world one day. The duo have big aspirations, but as the adage goes, if you shoot for the moon, you’ll end up among the stars, which is exactly who the Electro Doctors want to be with. This year, they have more songs planned to release as well as some surprises for Electro Doctors fans. “We’ve developed an album that’ll be out in October,” Electro Doctors told us after some convincing. The production is underway; we’re deciding on what to do and what revisions are required on particular tunes. Electro Doctors stated that “It’ll be a game changer”. This year, Electro Doctors have a few solo gigs planned. They’ll be supporting and opening for a couple shows coming up shortly, and they’re happy to share their adventure with Electro Doctors fans.
