Beat Maker Behind the Mic: The first solo album of Faekt

Faekt

Seoul-based music producer and beat maker Faekt is moving into singer-songwriter territory with his latest 7 track album “Taking Chances”, capturing his own vocals for the first time. The new release walks a fine line between melodic rap and r&b, combining real instrumental playing with Faekt’s unique beat  making style.

The opening track “Mind Blown” balances uptempo hard-hitting drums, with wavy synths and guitar lines, topped up by melodic rap vocals delivered through Faekt’s “sleepy” singing style.

“I wanted to start with a banger for the album. Most people know me as a beat maker specialized in mellow and moody r&b beats, but since I see this album as a new step in my musical journey, I wanted to kick it off in an energetic way.”

The music video, shot mostly in the northern parts of Seoul, gives off a very similar vibe to Faekt’s beat making videos on his Instagram, focusing on a “moody retro” aesthetic, with views of the city from above.

“Since Seoul is a very aesthetic and vibrant city with a lot of “Instagram-worthy” spots, I wanted to produce the video in a retro-city vibe, that matches the image of my usual video-production for my beats.

The lyrics of “Mind Blown” focus on a situation relatable to many, talking about the experience of falling for someone but not having the strength to reveal one’s own feelings. However, the piano chords and warm analog synth sounds still convey a sense of hopefulness, giving the track an overall positive vibe.

The album “Taking Chances” is out on all streaming platforms.
