Released on the 26th of October, Ivy Ash’s new track ‘Third Degree’ is a bold, funk-filled mood booster that explores the self-empowering experience of regaining control back over your life, after giving, perhaps, the wrong person too many second chances.
With her mission to use music as a vent to breakdown life struggles and anxieties, Ivy Ash and her new record is bound to resonate with so many people. Singing ‘take my name off your lips, it’s time that we called it quits, do what I want when I want now’, Ash emphasises the shamelessness of focusing on your boundaries so that you can ultimately, be the best version of yourself.
Her relatable lyrics that bounce in between the groove of the bass and clean synths express a new-found sense of confidence and self-worth, that further elevates the fearlessness of this track. Her vocal tone, somewhat reminiscent of the Queen of Pop, Madonna, is distinctive and delivers the catchy melody gracefully.
Whilst being supported by Arts Council England and their ‘Developing Your Creative Practice’ fund for the process of this track, Ivy Ash has proven to develop a recognisable electro-pop sound that has continued to evolve strongly on from her last record, ‘Rain Again’, which she released back in July.
As we wait for Ash to cook us up some more tasty bubble-gum pop, we can expect an acoustic version of ‘Third Degree’ in a few weeks’ time so be sure to keep eyes and ears open for that.
